Boediono: Indonesia Can Achieve Higher Growth
Vice President Boediono feels that the 2011 economic growth target, which was 6.4 percent of GDP, was too low. He said that Indonesia had sufficient capacity to achieve higher growth.
“The growth could be higher than the targeted 6.4 percent. Judging by its potential, 7-8 percent should not be a problem,” Boediono told ministers, governors and regents at the Development Program Implementation meeting at the Jakarta Convention Center, yesterday. The key, said Boediono, was using available energy as best as possible, including social energy and increasing use of electricity, oil and natural gas.
Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo agreed with Boediono’s. According to Agus, coordination between the central and regional government had often been a problem. Because of that, Agus hoped that coordination could start from that day on. Infrastucture is the next problem. According to Agus, if that could be resolved, construction would go faster. “If there is good infrastructure, a 6.4 percent growth would be too low,” he said.
