EOR Methods to Increase National Oil Production

Workshop on EORMethods to Increase National Oil Production was held on 23-24 June  2011  in Bandung, Indonesia. Fourteen speakers, including members of Lemigas, Pertamina EP, Chevron Pacific Indonesia, Total E&P Indonesia, Medco and others made speech on EOR methods to increase national oil production.

Mr. Feliks Zanichkovskiy, President Director of PT Petros Technologies Indonesia presented his work on extensive experience in implementing the most effective methods of enhanced oil recovery, utilizing about 20 most effective EOR technologies.

Since 1991, the Petros has successfully completed more than 80 projects to increase oil production at oil fields in Russia, USA, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and others. Petros EOR customers are the largest oil and gas companies in Russia and abroad: Rosneft, Lukoil, TNK-BP, Tatneft, Gazpromneft,  Surgutneftegaz, VNIIneft , JSC Vietsovpetro.

Beginning from 2008 Petros Technologies Indonesia has started its EOR activities in Indonesia and carried out several preliminary studies on some old wells and brown fields in South Sumatra. One of the most completed study was carried out in Benakat Timur oil field where FORI after implementation of Petros EOR technologies can be increased by 50 % per cent and  the current production rate more than tripled.

Mr. Feliks`s report contained short description of the principal Petros EOR technologies (Hydrodinamic EOR, Thermal EOR, Gas EOR) as well methods for increasing production rates of brown oil fields and old wells in Indonesia.

In conclusion of the workshop all oil and gas contractors in Indonesia were required to apply the enhanced oil recovery technologies to boost national oil production.

Hardiono, deputy chairman of the Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Body (BPMigas) admitted that careful calculations have to be done first so that the operations will still be feasible for both contractors and government.

Separately, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) urged the government to improve national oil-gas industry assets management due to existence of ‘unclear’ assets worth Rp122 trillion. Responding to this, BP Migas deputy head Hardiono said his agency has told oil and gas contractors to update their assets data. “This (data update) is done once in every year,” he said as quoted by Kompas.
